My name is John Wild and until I was made redundant in June 2000 I worked as an accountant for a company in Coventry. The days following my enforced retirement seemed to drag, having worked at a fairly high pressure for many years. I knew about the Waverley Day Centre from connections at St. John's Church, so thought I would investigate the possibility of volunteering in this direction.
The 15th January 2001 -a day that changed my life! Having taken the plunge to offer my services at Waverley as a volunteer minibus driver, I did not forsee at that moment how satisfying it would be. The job involves picking up clients from their homes in the morning, returning home mid-afternoon. Many of the elder folk have a great sense of humour and bear their aches and pains with fortitude. the caring staff are good fun to work with, contributing to a very happy atmosphere at the Centre. More volunteers would be welcome to drive the modern minibuses -how about giving it a try?
